Welcome to Karoonda Medical Centre

The Karoonda Medical Centre is committed to providing comprehensive General Practice Care to all individuals and families in the community. All doctors have satisfied the training and continuing medical education requirements of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and are on the Vocation Register of General Practitioners.

The consulting rooms are located in the Hospital which provides on-site accident and emergency service.

Karoonda has associations with the RACGP as an Accredited Teaching Practice for general practitioners with involvement in teaching medical students and activities with Rural Club Medical Students.

Out of Hours Care

When a Doctor is not available at the Medical Centre patients can present to the Karoonda District Hospital for assessment by a qualified RN who will then liaise with the on-call Doctor in Mannum.

Karoonda and District Soldiers' Memorial Hospital

Karoonda and District Soldiers' Memorial Hospital is part of the Mallee Health Services. Our hospital is a 22 bed facility with 18 beds for aged care and four beds for active medical treatment. Adjoining the hospital is our eight-room low care hostel.

Accident and emergency

When you arrive at accident and emergency, you will be seen by the duty nurse to collect information and assess your illness or injury. A doctor may not always be present or able to attend the Emergency Department. If this is the case, the on call doctor will be contacted for a telephone consult.

In a medical emergency, it is important that you do not ‘self present’ to hospital. SA Ambulance Service emergency medical dispatch support officers can provide advanced first-aid advice over the phone while an ambulance is on its way to you.

Technology

The Medical Centre has a fully computerised accounting and medical records, currently providing full 24 hours a day medical service with experienced and supportive staff both in the Medical Centre and the Hospital.

Your medical record is a confidential document. It is the policy of this practice to maintain security of personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorised members of staff
